Tools/Allergen statement calculator

Build an allergen statement before labels go to print.

Enter ingredients, choose allergen sources, and mark shared-equipment facts. The output separates the US Contains line, Canadian bilingual Contains/Contient line, may-contain prompt, and review notes so the label file has a clean QA trail.

VITAL 4.0 may-contain check

1. Label market

Pick where this label sells.

2. Ingredients

Choose the allergen sources.

Preset note: Flour, enriched flour, bread flour, cake flour, semolina.

Preset note: Butter, cream, ghee unless the supplier has a specific exemption.

Preset note: Whole egg, egg yolk, dried egg, egg wash.

3. Shared equipment and may-contain

Mark only plausible cross-contact.

This is intentionally not a blanket may-contain generator. Shared-line or at/above-ED05 facts generate a precautionary statement. Shared facility and shared equipment generate a review prompt unless you add threshold data.

Need this saved?

Free gets the statement. Plan Keeper keeps the recipe and label history.

The public calculator is for quick label prep, printing, and copy/paste review. Saved ingredient specs, versioned labels, supplier evidence, cross-contact logs, and repeat reviews belong in Plan Keeper when the label keeps changing. Pro raises limits for larger label libraries; Enterprise is custom.

Rules checked

The page copy was checked against FDA FALCPA, FDA's January 2025 final Edition 5 allergen guidance, CFIA ingredient/allergen guidance, and the VITAL 4.0 update on June 5, 2026.

Data shape

The widget uses 17 Big 9 source prompts, Canadian priority prompts, and 17 ingredient presets. It does not call an AI service.

Output limit

This is a deterministic label-prep screen, not a legal sign-off. Keep supplier specs, sanitation proof, and any threshold data with the label review file.

How it works

The calculator keeps the decisions separated.

Ingredient allergens

Direct ingredients drive the Contains and Contient statements.

Cross-contact facts

Shared line, shared equipment, and ED05 data drive the may-contain prompt.

Review notes

Species naming, Quebec prominence, refined oil, and supplier-proof reminders stay visible.
